How does cashback work?
Cashback is a tracked affiliate commission shared with you — which is why it can pending, miss, or reverse after a return.

When you click from a cashback website or app to a store, the store usually pays that site a commission if you buy. The site keeps some of that commission and credits you the rest as cashback. Credit-card cashback is similar in spirit (the bank earns interchange and shares a slice) but the plumbing is different: it lives on the card network, not a tracking cookie.
The lifecycle of one purchase
- You activate the offer and land on the merchant site.
- You complete a qualifying order.
- A tracking signal (cookie, click ID, or card-linked match) attributes the sale.
- Cashback shows as pending until the return window and merchant validation pass.
- It becomes available to withdraw or apply, minus any minimums.
How cashback sites make money
They are publishers in an affiliate network. If an offer says 4% and the merchant pays the network 6–8%, the difference funds the site, the network, and failed-tracking leakage. This is why rates change, why some categories pay nothing, and why using an ad blocker or a second coupon extension can break the chain.
Questions
When do I actually receive cashback?
Usually after a pending period of 30–90 days, and only if the purchase was not returned and the merchant’s tracking confirmed.
Why didn’t my cashback track?
Common causes include ad blockers, a coupon that voids the offer, gift cards, or clicking a different path than the tracked one.
